AB De Villiers suggests 9 runs for 100m six, commentators to take DRS calls, golf tech in cricket

Former South Africa skipper Ab De Villiers gave a slew of suggestions for the betterment of awarding runs for 100m+ sixes and DRS calls

Former South Africa skipper Ab De Villiers came up with an innovative suggestion for rewarding players who hit massive sixes above 100m. The Proteas all-rounder’s idea came in response to Kevin Pietersen who said that he had sought that rule two years ago and that it was on it’s way.

Ab De Villiers pitches out of the box ideas

De Villiers took to X to provide a slew of suggestions, starting off with awarding 8 or 9 runs instead of 12 runs for a six that goes the 100m + distance. He advocated for more technology to come into play to judge the distance accurately, citing golf as an example. ABD expressed displeasure over the job being done by someone who sat inside a box whose job was to measure the distance.

ABD went on to suggest another idea – asking the three commentators to take a DRS call based on a quick vote between themselves. He claimed that this would be very entertaining with close calls, noting that three is better than one.
