Pau Cubarsi, aged 16, was included in Barcelona’s starting XI for the La Liga away clash against Real Betis on January 21. The young centre-back, who came through Barca’s youth academies, was born on January 22, 2007, in Girona. After joining Barcelona in 2018 from Girona’s academies, Cubarsi quickly made strides in his career.
In April 2023, he earned a call-up from Xavi to train with the first team, and later, on July 8, 2023, Cubarsi signed his first professional contract with the club. The talented defender made his first appearance during the Copa del Rey Round of 16 clash against Unionistas, where he not only came on as a substitute for the injured Andreas Christensen but also provided an assist in Barca’s 3-1 victory.
The Real Betis game marked Cubarsi’s La Liga debut as a starter for Azulgrana, partnering with Ronald Araujo in the heart of the defence.
This opportunity came amidst the importance of the match for Xavi’s side, who were aiming to climb the La Liga standings. Barcelona, at that time, was in fourth place with 41\4 points fro 20 matches, in the third place in the league standings.
