Why did Shardul Thakur miss Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy game against Kerala?

Thakur made a solid contribution with the bat in the IND vs SA first Test at Centurion, but found it difficult to make a difference with the ball, leaking runs at an alarming rate.

Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur is out of action for the next two weeks after sustaining an ankle injury during the tour of South Africa. Thakur was therefore not included in the squad for Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy clash against Kerala, which started on January 19 in Thiruvananthapuram.

Cricbuzz reported that the all-rounder did not get a clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to play for Mumbai because of his recurring knee problem.

Notably, Indian batter Shreyas Iyer was also excluded from the Mumbai squad, with the middle-order batter leaving India to prepare for India’s upcoming five-match Test series against England.
