The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has expressed interest in organizing friendly matches in Kerala, aiming for a potential event in October 2025. Originally slated for June, the matches were postponed due to monsoon concerns. While the Kerala government is optimistic, the primary hurdle remains the financial constraints of bringing Lionel Messi and the team to India.
During discussions with state officials, the AFA sought a list of potential opponents, with the state expected to cover expenses for both teams. Despite the enthusiasm, securing a strong sponsor is crucial, as the estimated cost for hosting the Argentine national team ranges from Rs 32-40 crore.
“The state will have to bear the expenses of both the Argentine team and their rivals which will be huge.” a government source told TOI.
