MS Dhoni is the most successful captain in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He powered Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to their fifth title in IPL 2023. But, Dhoni will turn 43 this year and he would most likely say goodbye to cricket in the upcoming IPL 2024.
MS Dhoni has achieved all, in one of the most popular sport in world. After CSK’s fifth IPL win, Dhoni had said that he would try to play one more season of IPL to thank his fans for the love and support he received in these years.
“Circumstantially, this is the best time to announce my retirement. But the amount of love I have received all over, the easy thing would be to walk away from here, but the harder thing would be to work hard for nine months and try to play another IPL,” Dhoni said in last match of IPL 2023.
MS Dhoni has not made any statement about his retirement from IPL in the upcoming season. But, in this upcoming IPL 2024, it is likely that he will announce his IPL retirement.
Will MS Dhoni retire this year?
MS Dhoni is one of the most fitness athletes and therefore he was able to continue playing competitive cricket. But, this season could mark his last as he would now want to start a new innings of his life by spending time with friends and family.
Mahi underwent knee surgery in June, so there are concerns over his match-fitness too.
Will MS Dhoni play all IPL 2024 matches?
It would purely depend on MS Dhoni’s fitness. It is possible that he would take rests in a few matches to prepare the team for his absence and make them ready for future seasons.
What CSK management want?
The CSK management would want to look beyond MS Dhoni. It would be very difficult for the team to find replacement of their forever captain.
