There are a few spots in Team India that are sealed, while a few are in contention for the remaining. The wicket-keeping batsman is one position that no player seems to have sealed for now. With the T20 World Cup approaching soon, the debate between Jitesh Sharma & Sanju Samson, at No. 6 will only intensify.
Former India opener Aakash Chopra has his take on this. Jitesh failed to make it count during the Afghanistan T20I series, while Sanju has been in and out of the team, more than desired. “The question is whether you should keep Jitesh or Sanju at No. 6. If Jitesh had cemented his place totally, if there hadn’t been a question mark at all in front of Jitesh’s name, that he is definitely going to the World Cup, you could have thought about Sanju. However, Jitesh is not confirmed yet,” Chopra said.
“There is a flip side to that as well. Assuming you play Sanju, will you judge him with one match? It’s incorrect. Whoever you try, give him three chances at least. This is what has happened with Sanju throughout his career,” Chopra added.
But now, another problem arises for India. The team only has one T20I to go before the World Cup, and then will have to rely a lot of the performances of IPL, to select the squad for the tournament.
