Jose Mourinho on Tuesday was sacked by Serie A side AS Roma after a string of bad results. Mourinho and the Roma board were at loggerheads as the Serie A side were winless in their last five matches, losing a number of them.
It was no surprise that Jose Mourinho was jeered before Sunday night’s game against AC Milan at the San Siro. After all, it wasn’t his beloved Inter with whom he shared an unshakeable bond, having led them to a treble-winning season in 2010. So it was only natural that as soon as the Portuguese’s name came up on the big screen at the San Siro, Milanistas would begin booing him.
Mourinho had lost four out of six derbies since arriving in Rome, with only a single victory.
In an official statement, the club announced, “AS Roma can confirm that José Mourinho and his coaching staff will leave the club with immediate effect. We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club. AS Roma will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club. We wish José and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”
