Democratic Alliance ready to complain to Human Rights after unfair sacking of U19 captain David Teeger

South Africa's Democratic Alliance threatens to approach South African Human Rights Commission for unfair sacking of David Teeger

Cricket South Africa is under the scanner yet again. David Teeger was removed of his captaincy for the U19 World Cup as the CSA cited security threats. The Democratic Alliance claims it will launch an application to see the credibility of security threats for which the youngster was removed as the captain.

David Teeger faced criticism after making pro Israeli comments last year. CSA cleared him from the charges in their internal inquiry. But now the Democratic Alliance (DA) has claimed it will seek for the risk assessment report that was done, based on which the teenager was removed as captain of SA U19 team.

The Alliance has further threatened to raise the issue to South African Human Rights Commission is CSA’s decision is not reversed by Friday.

CSA received flak from far and wide for sacking their young Jewish skipper. “The DA strongly believes that the proclaimed security threat is merely a smokescreen for what appears to be a political decision by Cricket South Africa,” said DA MP Veronica van Dyk.

The CSA is yet to announce their new captain but has ensured that Teeger will continue to be a part of the team for the ICC U19 World Cup. CSA board chairperson, Lawson Naido claimed that Teeger’s previous statements where not taken into consideration for his sacking as the captain.

“It will be in the best interest of the tournament, of all the teams participating, especially South Africa, as well as David himself, to allow him to hopefully allow the spotlight to be removed from him,” said Naido
