Aakash Chopra names his choice between Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja for T20 WC 2024

Following the second T20I between India and Afghanistan, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has made his selection preference clear for the T20 World Cup 2024

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has expressed his preference for Axar Patel as India’s primary spin-bowling all-rounder over Ravindra Jadeja for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup. After Axar delivered an impressive performance in the second T20I against Afghanistan in Indore, securing figures of 2/17 in four overs,

Chopra stated, “Axar Patel was given the Player of the Match award. I am scared when Axar gets the Player of the Match because he was dropped when he got two successive Player of the Match awards last time. They didn’t take him to South Africa, and don’t know what they will do now as well.”

Despite Axar’s stellar performance, Chopra acknowledged the uncertainty within the Indian team regarding the selection of the primary spinner batting at No. 7. He added, “There is no clarity yet whether Ravindra Jadeja or Axar Patel is your first spinner who can bat at No. 7. It’s Axar Patel in my book. However, because the Indian team made Jaddu the vice-captain in the last series, maybe the team is thinking about Ravindra Jadeja.”

Chopra expressed concern about the potential repercussions of Axar’s accolades, emphasizing his uncertainty about the team’s decision-making. Additionally, despite Axar’s outstanding bowling spell, Chopra suggested that the Player of the Match award for the second T20I should have gone to Shivam Dube for his all-round contributions. This sheds light on the ongoing debate within the team regarding the selection of spin-bowling all-rounders for the T20 World Cup.
