All-rounder Shivam Dube‘s all-round display, particularly with the bat, has led former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra to believe that he is in serious contention for a spot in the squad for the T20 World Cup. Starting off 2024 with a bang, Dube has scored consecutive half-centuries in the IND vs AFG series as India kick start their preparations for the WC.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra called Dube a ‘game changer’ and noted that he reminded the fans of Yuvraj Singh. Explaining why he thought so, the ex-India star pointed out at the all-rounder’s back lift, the downswing with the bat and the follow through to highlight similarities with Yuvraj.
Further, Chopra elaborated the need for strength to smash maximums in the stadiums in the Caribbean and the USA – where the World Cup is set to be hosted. Noting that there would be big stadiums and slow pitches, he said that power and not technique would work. Chopra said that Dube could turn out to be a match winner and that he was in serious contention for a spot in the WC squad if his good form continues.
The former cricketer was also of the opinion that Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and CSK captain MS Dhoni might get Dube to bowl more overs as well, to groom him into the perfect all-rounder that India require.
