‘What mental fatigue’: Ex-Pakistan keeper slams Ishan Kishan, cites Ro-Ko, Bumrah cases

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal targeted India's Ishan Kishan for citing mental fatigue to skip the IND vs SA series

Former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal has slammed India wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan for citing mental fatigue to miss the IND vs SA series. Kishan made himself unavailable for the Proteas series followed by which he was dropped from the IND vs AFG T20I series and IND vs ENG Tests.

Ex-PAK player questions Ishan Kishan’s mental fatigue reasoning

Speaking in a video on his YouTube channel, Akmal questioned what mental fatigue that Kishan possibly faced at such an early part of his career. Further, the ex-Pakistan keeper cited the cases of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, noting that they played the IPL as well as international fixtures.

There has been talk about Ishan Kishan being released from the Test squad in South Africa to deal with mental fatigue. At this early stage of your career, what mental fatigue can you have?,” Akmal said on his YouTube channel.

“In this team, there are the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, who also deal with fatigue. They play the IPL, international matches, including Test matches. Have never heard of players taking a break due to this reason.”

Further, Akram claimed that the Jharkhand batsman was saving himself for IPL 2024 and that playing for the Indian was a bigger thing. Terming it as a good thing to keep Kishan away from international cricket, Akmal advocated for the Indian keeper to play domestic cricket instead. Further, he said that this should be a case which show that players cannot ask for rest due to mental fatigue as cricket was national duty.

This should be a message to players that they cannot ask for rest whenever they want due to mental fatigue. This is national duty, you cannot ask for rest just like that,” he added.
