Rassie van der Dussen might have proven credentials as a batsman in ODIs, but he isn’t really known for his prowess in the T20s. But during the SA20 match between MI Cape Town and Joburg Super Kings, Dussen displayed his might as a power-hitter too, as he took his side to 243 in 20 overs, slamming 104 in 50 balls himself.
His innings included nine fours and six sixes, and strung a partnership of 200 with fellow opener Ryan Rickelton, to become the first pair in the tournament to come up with such a big stand. Meanwhile, the previous best record was between JSK’s Faf du Plessis and Reeza Hendricks, who added 157 together.
Coming back to the match, Rickelton missed out on his ton, and was dismissed for 98 by Nandre Burger. The former also played his innings with a strike rate of 200. Then, after both the openers went back to the pavilion, the scoring rate dropped a bit, as MICT finished with 243.
Burger was the most expensive bowler in the innings, ending with figures of 2/53. Moeen Ali ended with 0/43 in his four overs, while Romario Shepherd gave away 49 in his three overs. The best bowler on the day, for JSK was Lizaad Williams, who ended with figures of 1/36.
