Vijayveer Sidhu secures India’s record 17th quota in upcoming Paris Olympics 2024

This achievement marks a record for India, surpassing the previous highest number of quotas secured in a single Olympic Games, which was 15 at the Tokyo Olympics.

In a historic moment for Indian sports, Vijayveer Sidhu clinched the 17th quota for India in the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024 setting a new record for the highest number of quotas secured by India in a single Olympic edition. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 15 quotas achieved at the Tokyo Olympics.

Competing in the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol event at the Asian Olympics Qualifiers in Jakarta, Sidhu displayed exceptional skill, finishing fourth in the qualifying round with an impressive score of 577 points. This performance secured him one of the four available Olympic quotas out of the six finalists.

Sidhu’s achievement goes beyond a personal victory; it marks a significant milestone for Indian shooting. Previously, Rhythm Sangwan set the record by winning a bronze medal in the 25m sports pistol category at the Qualifiers, ensuring that India would send its largest-ever shooting contingent to the Paris Olympics.

Sidhu’s success reflects his unwavering dedication, hard work, and pursuit of excellence, embodying the spirit of Indian sports. As he prepares for the final later in the day, his journey stands as a testament to determination and grit.

In addition to Sidhu’s accomplishment, the women’s 50m Rifle 3P event saw Sift Kaur Samra and Ashi Chouksey secure the silver and bronze medals, further showcasing the prowess of Indian shooters on the international stage.
