Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina on Saturday backed Virat Kohli to play with the same attacking mindset he has throughout his career. Raina’s advice comes as Virat prepares to make his comeback to T20I cricket after a hiatus of 14 months in the IND vs AFG 2nd T20I.
Virat has been in blistering form in recent times. Although India lost the ODI World Cup final against Australia, Virat Kohli stood out for scoring the highest runs in a World Cup campaign and took home the Player of the Tournament trophy. Even in the recent IND vs SA Test series where the Indian batters struggled quite a lot, Kohli played some gritty innings to win over the critics and fans alike.
Keeping in mind the T20 World Cup 2024, Kohli was included in the squad for IND vs AFG T20I series. During a recent show in Jio Cinema, Raina was asked if Kohli needed to bring a more aggressive intent to his game. Raina said Kohli just needs to keep batting with the same approach he has had previously.
“He always has an attacking mindset, the way he controls the innings. 20 overs is a big format. People feel it is a very short format, but you still need to play 20 overs. India have won 17 of their last 19 matches while chasing when Kohli was there. When you chase, you do the calculations in your mind, and that’s why he is called a chase master,” Raina said.
