‘It is difficult’: India boss Rahul Dravid opens up on challenges of coaching his son

18 year old Samit Dravid has scored 370 runs in 7 games at an average of 37.78 and hit three fifties.

Gracing the cricket field, another scion of Indian cricket royalty, Samit Dravid, is making significant strides at the junior level. Representing the Karnataka team, the 18-year-old, son of the legendary Rahul Dravid, is on the brink of a senior-level debut, showcasing his prowess as a versatile top-order batter and a fast-bowling all-rounder.

While cricket enthusiasts closely monitor Samit’s ascent, Rahul Dravid, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, disclosed in an interview on his 51st birthday that coaching his son is a responsibility he has deliberately avoided. Responding to a query by former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina ahead of the 1st India-Afghanistan T20, Dravid cleverly addressed the topic.

“I don’t coach my son Samit as it is difficult to play two roles (parent and coach). I am happy to be a father. I don’t know what I am doing in that role also,” Rahul Dravid said on JioCinema.

In the ongoing 2023-24 Cooch Behar Trophy, Samit’s impactful contributions have propelled Karnataka into the final, where they currently face Mumbai at the KSCA Navule Stadium in Shimoga. Accumulating 340 runs in seven matches with an impressive average of 37.78, including three half-centuries, Samit’s batting prowess is evident. On the bowling front, the young talent has also notched up three crucial wickets in the competition.
