Former England spinner Graeme Swann on Thursday urged the English spinners to go out and express themselves when England take on India in a 5-match Test series in India later this month. The IND vs ENG Test series is expected to be a closely contested encounter and Swann knows a thing or two about utilising India’s spin-friendly pitch conditions.
Swann and Monty Panesar had wreaked havoc on pitches in India during the Test series of 2012-13. England triumphed 2-1 in that series, which remains to this day their last victory on Indian turf in Tests. It’s been 12 years since the last time England won a Test series in India and they will be eager to do so again.
Ahead of another IND vs ENG Test series in India, Swann backed his spinners to perform well on Indian pitches and encouraged them to draw inspiration from the great Australian spinner, Shane Warne.
“Everyone should look as confident as Warne did in the second innings of any game, because if you can bluff the batter into thinking you’re in control, then you can get wickets.” Swann said on Sky Sports Podcast.
“We need big bowlers who are going to be effective on the pitches in India. Hartley and Shoaib Bashir are very tall bowlers. Hartley is six feet four and Bashir has longer fingers than Monty Panesar. They are fairly consistent as well and can be a handful,” Swann added.
