Earlier today, a fast West Indies pacer shocked the Australia XI in their warm-up match ahead of the AUS vs WI 1st Test. The bowler happens to be Guyana bowler Shamar Joseph.
Who is Shamar Joseph? A 24-year-old pacer who was working in a security firm not even two years ago now has a chance to make his Test debut with just 5 first-class games under his belt.
Since making his first-class debut less than a year ago in February, Shamar has been part of West Indies A and secured a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) deal with the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
Such is the pacer’s talent that he scalped 12 wickets on the West Indies A tour of South Africa a couple of months ago and has now stormed into the Test squad with little to no experience but immense potential.
Earlier today, during the West Indies vs Cricket Australia XI, Shamar scalped two wickets, but that wasn’t why he grabbed everyone’s attention. His magical delivery to Teague Wyllie and raw pace have everyone wanting him to make his Test debut as soon as possible.
The pacer reminded everyone of the golden era of West Indies cricket, with a plethora of pace bowlers breathing fire. However, now all Windies produce are medium pacers who prefer T20s or Tests.
Will Shamar Joseph make his debut? That rests in the hands of skipper Kraigg Brathwaite, but one thing is sure: every cricket fan will be raring to see the fast bowler go at the strong Australian batting line-up with all he’s got.
