India Women’s coach Amol Mazumdar backs skipper Harmanpreet Kaur despite slump in form

Mazumdar said he expects the Punjab-born batter to snap out of the temporary slump and play a lot of match-winning knocks for India in the future.

Indian Women’s team captain Harmanpreet kaur is currently having a bad run at the top of the order. The runs have dried up on Harmanpreet’s bat in the last few months. She scored just 17 runs in the three-match ODI series against Australia and 9 runs in the T20 series. India lost the ODI series 3-0 while going down 2-1 in the T20I series. However, head coach Amol Mazumdar is not too concerned about Harmanpreet’s form.

Mazumdar said that the skipper is isn’t in poor form across formats and added that all cricketers go through a phase in T20Is. He said he expects the Punjab-born batter to snap out of the temporary slump and play a lot of match-winning knocks in the future.

“I wouldn’t say (Harmanpreet is out of form) across formats. In Test matches, she got a 49 and then 44 not out (against England). In the T20Is, it happens to every cricketer. She’s been a great player for India. I’m sure you’ll see some bright performances (from her) in the near future,” Mazumdar was quoted as saying by Glamsham.

Mazumdar said that the team’s focus needs to be on fielding and fitness after the England and Australia series. He said that he appreciated the team’s effort in the recent series but expects everyone to step up their game in the upcoming games.

“In white-ball cricket, we really need to focus on our fielding and our fitness. And hopefully, in the following months, I will get a chance to work on it. Those are some areas we have identified as a group to raise the bar. In areas to look into, let’s rephrase that to fielding, fitness and DRS,” he said.
