New Zealand Cricket announces appointment of Andre Adams as bowling coach ahead of PAK vs NZ T20I series

New Zealand Cricket has officially announced the appointment of former cricketer Andre Adams as the bowling coach in preparation for the upcoming T20I series between Pakistan and New Zealand.

Former New Zealand cricketer Andre Adams has been appointed as the bowling coach for the New Zealand men’s national cricket team, gearing up for the upcoming five-match PAK vs NZ T20I series. Adams takes on this role following Shane Jurgensen’s resignation after the 2023 ODI World Cup. Having played one Test, 42 ODIs, and four T20Is for New Zealand, Adams brings extensive playing experience to his coaching position.

Notably, Adams has an impressive coaching track record, having played a pivotal role in Mitchell Starc’s form recovery while working with the New South Wales team in Australia in 2019. He also contributed to the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League (BBL) and played a part in the development of Lockie Ferguson’s career with Auckland. Recently, Adams served as the fast bowling coach for the New Zealand women’s team during their limited-overs tour of South Africa in September-October of the previous year.

The New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has officially announced Adams’ inclusion in head coach Gary Stead’s coaching group, which already includes Luke Ronchi as the regular batting coach. Adams is set to begin his new role with the New Zealand men’s team in Auckland, coinciding with the start of the T20I series against Pakistan scheduled to kick off on January 12 at Eden Park. Subsequent matches will be held in Hamilton, Dunedin, and Christchurch.

During this series, Chris Donaldson, the New Zealand strength and conditioning coach, and Simon Insley, the team performance manager, will be on a break. Matt Long, Cricket Wellington’s head of athlete development, and Dave Meiring, Central Districts’ high-performance manager, will assume their respective responsibilities on a temporary basis.

This temporary coaching assignment for Andre Adams presents a significant opportunity for him to contribute to the success of the New Zealand cricket team, especially in the fast-paced and dynamic format of T20 cricket.
