Virat Kohli nears massive record in T20s, to become first Indian to achieve feat

India vs Afghanistan: As far as the T20 internationals are concerned, Virat Kohli is the highest run-getter, and has 4008 runs in 115 outings.

The India vs Afghanistan T20I series is around the corner, and the debate, whether Virat Kohli should be in the shortest format or not, has started again. The focus is already on the T20 World Cup, and the team combination needs to be sorted, sooner rather than later. But keeping this debate aside, Virat is a great of the format, like he is in others, and his numbers speak volumes.

The former India skipper Virat is on the cusp of a massive record in the format, something that no other Indian has managed to do so far. The 35-year-old has 11,965 runs in the T20s (IPL+T20s), and is just 35 runs away from becoming the first from the country to get the milestone of 12,000 runs.

When he gets to the rare milestone, he will only be the fourth-ever in the world to do so. As of now, West Indian Chris Gayle tops the charts with 14562 runs in 463 matches, at an average of 36.22. Pakistan Shoaib Malik has 12993 runs in 525 matches, at an average of 36.39, while Keiron Pollard has 12390 runs in 637 matches.

Meanwhile, the next best Indian in the list is skipper Rohit Sharma, who has 11035 runs in 423 outings. He averages 30.56 in the format.
