Warner’s retirement has left a void in Australia’s opening slot, with many names doing rounds to take up that spot. In spite of consistently scoring runs in the domestic circuit, Bancroft has been overlooked for long. In the absence of Warner, several names have surfaced to take up the opening slot, with Steve Smith, Matt Renshaw and Cameron Green among the possible candidates. Several reports have claimed Smith is the most likely to be Usman Khawaja’s opening partner when Australia take on West Indies.

Former cricketer Tom Moody took to X (previously Twitter) on Tuesday to question Bancroft’s oversight in the Australian team in the longest format of the game.

Tom Moody slams Cameron Bancroft's 'oversight' as Australia's search for Warner's replacement continues

“Selection is never an easy task but the oversight of Cameron Bancroft is shocking. His first class numbers are so compelling against his peers it feels there is another agenda which I hope was communicated to him honestly!” Moody wrote on the social media platform.

However, it is unlikely that the CA selectors will be swayed by Moody’s argument. Bancroft will miss another Test call up in all probability when Australia’s squad is announced.
