Cheteshwar Pujara might not be in the mix for a selection in the Indian team any time soon, but that hasn’t kept the veteran batter from scoring runs in the Ranji Trophy. Pujara scored 243 not out in Saurashtra’s Ranji Trophy opener against Jharkhand. The innings received a lot of appreciation, with former cricketer Mohammad Kaif urging the youngsters to learn from Pujara.

Pujara has been overlooked from the Indian Test squad recently and hasn’t played a Test since the World Test Championship Final of 2023. The batter was also dropped from the South Africa Test squad and has a very remote chance of making a comeback for the five-match Test series against England.
However, in spite of so many young talents in the mix for a selection in the Test team, Pujara is making the job of selectors tougher. Pujara top scored with 243 not out in Saurashtra’s Ranji opener against Jharkhand. The batter played 346 balls on his way to the double tons, hitting 30 fours during the course of the innings.
Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif took to X (previously Twitter) to express his admiration for Pujara after his gutsy innings.
“Regardless of what the national selectors think of him, Pujara keeps scoring runs. His commitment should be a lesson for all youngsters playing the game,” Kaif wrote.
