Led by the iconic Sunil Chhetri, the Indian Football team is set to participate in the AFC Asian Cup 2023 for the fifth time. The upcoming edition of this quadrennial continental meet is scheduled to be held in Qatar, spanning from January 12 to February 10, 2024.
Sunil Chhetri all set for AFC Asian Cup 2024
India finds itself placed in Group B alongside Australia, Uzbekistan, and Syria for the AFC Asian Cup 2023. Chhetri and his teammates will kick off their campaign against Australia on January 13 at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan. Ahead of the showpiece event, Sunil Chhetri delved into’s readiness for the event.
We are not scared. We know where we stand and we are very humble. Also we know are amongst 14 to 18 in Asia. In terms of level. We know we can take from 10 to 14 teams. We played well against Iraq, if you remember. said Chhetri speaking to Rev Sportz.
“Some teams are still difficult to play like Qatar and Australia, Japan, Saudi South Korea, and Iran, the ones who play the World Cup. It’s still difficult because the level is completely different. But we are optimistic. And the only way we’re going to improve is to play against these teams. Very often quite often.“
“I think these games give you a fair idea and also keep you on your toes you know and it will also tell us exactly how much we have improved how much we have to improve more.” Chhetri concluded.
Following the Australia game, they will face Uzbekistan on January 18 at the same venue. The Indian men’s football team will then transition to the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor to clash with Syria on January 23, marking their final group stage match.
