Muttiah Muralitharan wants IPL team for Kerala to promote game in football-loving state

Muttiah Muralitharan wants to promote cricket in the state of Kerala and therefore he thinks that the state should have an IPL team.

Sri Lanka’s legend Muttiah Muralitharan wants an Indian Premier League (IPL) team for Kerala to promote cricket in the state as he has seen football as a more popular sport in the state than cricket.

Kerala had an IPL team team named Kochi Tuskers but the franchises lasted for just one season and then terminated.

Muttiah Muralitharan was part of the Kochi Tuskers squad where he witnessed that the cricket tournament did not have the same vibe as ISL.

“Football is more popular in Kerala. When I played for Kochi Tuskers we didn’t have the same vibe in the gallery that the current ISL side enjoys. Clubs like Tripunithura Cricket Club should come forward and promote cricket in the state,” Muralitharan was quoted as saying by Times of India.

TCC should get an IPL team: Muttiah Muralitharan

Sri Lanka’s former cricketer has asked Tripunithura Cricket Club to create pressure on the cricket authorities and get an IPL team for Kerala.

“In 2011, we played only for a year, which was unfortunate for Kerala cricket. Because if you have an IPL team, the cricketers in the state will blossom. TCC should put pressure on the cricket authorities in the state to try and get an IPL team for Kerala,” Muralitharan added.
