IND vs ENG: Selection dilemma, Gill’s position weakened as Cheteshwar Pujara slams ton in Ranji Trophy

Big selection conundrum as Cheteshwar Pujara aims to bench Shubman Gill for IND vs ENG Test series

Cheteshwar Pujara has slammed a fine century against Jharkhand in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. Now this is bad news for Shubman Gill. With all eyes on the upcoming IND vs ENG 5 match Test series, the India Cricket Team is eyeing for a strong candidate at the number 3 position. The youngster’s poor form will surely raise a Pujara vs Gill selection conundrum for the BCCI Selection Committee.

Cheteshwar Pujara, the veteran is eyeing a comeback in the Indian team in red ball cricket. On the other hand, Shubman Gill despite having a stellar year 2023 in ODIs faltered in Test. Moreover, the inclusion of Yashasvi Jaiswal has led Gill batting at Number 3 where he has failed to consolidate his spot.

No more in favour for India Cricket Team, Pujara has turned his attention to the domestic circuit. Pujara remained unbeaten on 157 on Day 2, hitting 19 fours to maintain his high scoring form. In the grand scheme of things, India will like to go on top of the WTC standings.

As a result the 5-match Test series against England in extremely crucial. Further, Pujara’s fine form and Gill’s lacklustre nature has created quite a big selection conundrum for the BCCI Selection committee.

Shubman Gill’s struggles in Test Cricket

Shubman Gill had a torrid time in Testr cricket in 2023. Out of 10 innings he managed just 258 runs with a solitary century against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy back in March. Saving that Gill didn’t manage a single fifty.

Furthermore, batting at number 3 has been a bane for young Gill. He has played 8 innings at this position managing 166 runs with a highest of 47. Pujara whose natural position is at 3, has amassed 6529 in 155 innings managed 18 tons and 52 fifties.
