When David Warner ordered Nathan Lyon to drive his $200,000 Range Rover on their first meeting

Veteran Australia spinner recalled his bizarre first meeting with David Warner when they were a part of Australia A tour to Zimbabwe

David Warner brought the curtains down on his Test career in a grand fashion, signing off with a triumphant Test series against Pakistan. The explosive Aussie opener finished his red-ball career with a fifty in his final innings as Australia won the 3rd PAK vs AUS Test at the SCG.

Lyon’s bizarre first meet with David Warner

Veteran spinner Nathan Lyon, who has spent years with the southpaw in the national side, spilled the beans on what went down in his first-ever meeting with Warner. Speaking on Willow Talk podcast, Lyon recalled when he first met David when they were off to a Australia A tour of Zimbabwe. The veteran spinner, who shared a room with Warner, texted the southpaw in order to become familiar with him.

However, it took a bizarre turn when Warner asked the spinner to drive back his $200,000 Range Rover from Story Bridge in Brisbane. Lyon joked that he was asked to drive a luxury vehicle when he had a $20,000 Commodore. The spinner further revealed that he had to drive back Warner’s car as the latter had had a couple of beers.

Warner signs off from Tests

In a triumphant farewell, David Warner expressed his joy and pride as Australia sealed a comprehensive 3-0 series victory against Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Warner, who is retiring from Test cricket, lauded the team’s exceptional achievements over the past 18 months, including the World Test Championship win, a drawn Ashes series, and triumph in the World Cup.

Reflecting on the outstanding team effort, Warner commended the relentless work ethic of the Australian cricketers, particularly highlighting the trio of fast bowlers and Mitchell Marsh, whom he referred to as the “engine room.” He emphasized their dedication in the gym and acknowledged their remarkable skills, even humorously mentioning his reluctance to face them in the nets.
