Sam Harper stable in hospital after suffering head injury, says Melbourne Stars

Melbourne Stars' training session was called off immediately after the incident, and Harper will not play against the Sydney Sixers on Saturday.

Melbourne Stars have released a statement saying that injured Sam Harper was in stable condition after being rushed to hospital. Harper sustained a nasty head injury during a training session at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday, January 5.

Harper was hit in the nets at Melbourne Cricket Ground, and Australian media reported that onlookers were left in shock. Melbourne Stars’ training session was called off immediately after the incident, and Harper will not play against the Sydney Sixers on Saturday.

According to a statement posted on the Stars’ X account, Harper was hit in the head while he was batting and was rushed to the hospital, where he is currently in stable condition.

“Sam Harper was struck in the head whilst batting at training this evening at the MCG and subsequently taken to hospital in a stable condition. We ask that you respect his privacy at this time. The club will provide further updates when they come to hand,” read the statement from the Stars.

Harper has an unfortunate history of concussions and head injuries. He was involved in an unfortunate incident with Nathan Ellis during a match between the Melbourne Renegades and the Hurricanes at the start of 2020.
