South African captain for the IND vs SA 2nd Test and retiring batter Dean Elgar was an unhappy man on Thursday. Elgar’s team meekly surrendered the 2nd Test to India as Rohit Sharma’s men drew level with a thumping win in the IND vs SA Test series.

South Africa produced one of the worst performances with the bat in Cape Town. The Proteas team was bowled out for a mere 55 in the first innings. India in reply were scored 153 before bowling out South Africa for 176 in the second innings. Needing just 79 to win, India lost three wickets to score the necessary runs.
Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Dean Elgar, wearing South Africa’s jersey for the last time, defended his decision to bat first after winning the toss. The Proteas captain also heaped praises on the Indian bowlers, claiming the Proteas were ‘outskilled’ by the Indian bowling in the first innings.
“Tough one for us. We were positive coming into the game, but the first innings with the bat…India bowled well and used the conditions to a T. In a day, it’s a draw, but 2-nil would’ve been nice. Yeah, it was a bit of a ripper. In a naked eye, it looked a nice one, but it played different to what everyone thought it would play. Big learning curve for playing here. Still don’t regret my decision to bat first but they outskilled us in the first session,” Elgar said.
