It was a mistake: Sanjay Manjrekar criticises Rohit Sharma’s captaincy on Day 2 of IND vs SA 2nd Test

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar criticised Rohit Sharma's tactics on Day 2 of the IND vs SA 2nd Test in Cape Town.

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has criticised Rohit Sharma on starting the Day 2 with Mukesh Kumar and not Mohammed Siraj.

Rohit started with Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar in the first session of Day 2. While Bumrah made an impact from one end, Mukesh Kumar failed to provide the support from other end.

This allowed Aiden Markram to score runs freely from other end which helped the Proteas push their lead.

During the commentary on Start Sports, Manjrekar criticised Rohit’s tactics.

“Here’s another. I guess in a way criticism of Rohit Sharma, I’m sure a lot of people will talk about. This is only the second over today from Mohammed Siraj. And so much has happened with Markham getting his hundred the leads swelling to 60, and only the second over performance. I think in a way that’s a mistake starting off with Mukesh Kumar should have had a maybe a short burst for Siraj”, Manjrekar added.

Siraj made an instant impact as he got the big wicket of Aiden Markram in his second over. Markram scored a brilliant century to stretch hosts’ lead to over 60 on a challenging pitch.
