England’s Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow put up the highest run partnership of 399 for the 6th wicket in a Test match against South Africa in 2016 in Cape Town.
Ben Stokes went on to score his highest test score of 258 in the 2nd Test match of the four-match Test series in South Africa. The England all-rounder was in a golden touch, scoring runs at a strike rate of 130 in Test cricket.
While Bairstow scored an unbeaten 150 runs with a strike rate of 78.53. With the help of a gigantic partnership, England put up 629 in the first innings.
In response, Proteas also added 627/7d in their first innings with Hashim Amla’s (201) double century and Temba Bavuma’s (102) hundred. The match ended in a draw with England scoring 159/6 in the second innings.
Following their victory in the third Test in Johannesburg, England managed to secure a 2-1 series triumph.
Stokes was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his blistering knock. During the post-match presentation, Stokes said, “When I started going we had a good score on the board so I thought me getting out here won’t be the worst thing. I just went for my shots and it came off.”
