IND vs SA 2nd Test: Rohit Sharma plots ‘miserable’ farewell for Dean Elgar

Leading his side, Dean Elgar played a match-winning knock in the IND vs SA 1st Test match.

IND vs SA 2nd Test: Team India skipper Rohit Sharma praised Dean Elgar ahead of his final international match. After playing a match-winning knock in the opening Test, Elgar will be looking to replicate his antics with the bat in the second Test match as well. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma stated that the visitors will be looking to spoil the party for Elgar.

“He has been a core member of their side. He gets a lot of runs against us. He is a quality player who puts big price on his wicket. It will be an important thing for us to get him early. He bats all the way and long. We have got our plans for him. It clearly did not work out in the opening Test but yeah as you said we are planning to make his farewell match miserable (laughs),” said Rohit Sharma at the Pre match Press conference.

Set to play his last Test match, Dean Elgar recently said that said he was saddened by the decline of the longest format in the country. “The situation we’ve been put in is not ideal,” said Elgar.

Elgar said he hoped young players would get the opportunities to have the experiences he had had in 12 years of Test cricket. “We can fight and promote the format as much as you can but it’s up to the guys who count the beans. “Hopefully there will be a bit of sanity in the decisions for our players going forward,” he added.

Dean Elgar also criticized South Africa’s limited Test schedule. “It would be sad going forward for us just to play with two Test matches in a series, to me it’s not the best way for guys to learn about the format,” he said.
