The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has closed 2 cases regarding IPL betting in 2019. The cases were registered in terms of fixing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with inputs from Pakistan. However, due to lack of evidence the CBI has decided to close the cases which were registered back in May of 2022.
After 2 years of, the CBI has closed the cases which was filed based on the complaint of “a network of individuals involved in cricket betting are influencing the outcome of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches based on inputs received from Pakistan”.
With a lack of evidence, the CBI filed for a closure to the special court on 23rd December. Now it will be the decision of the court take a judgement call. Should the cases be closed or investigations need to continue depends solely on the final decision of the court.
Back in May 2022, 2 FIRs were filed against 7 individuals for being involved in the IPL betting scandal. “The information reveals that this network of individuals was involved in cricket betting during Indian Premier League (IPL) matches held in the year 2019,” the FIR stated based on the scandal that included individuals from Delhi and Hyderabad.
“The information reveals that this network of individuals was involved in cricket betting during the then-ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) matches held in the year 2019 in Delhi and other places,” the FIR further stated.
