Even as the squad for India’s upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan is yet to be announced, there’s a fresh twist to the captaincy race. A recent IND vs AFG promo for the series featured opener Shubman Gill as India’s skipper opposite Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan.
Gill to be captain in IND vs AFG T20Is?
The speculation around who will captain India in the shortest format is rife, with many wondering if Rohit Sharma would continue until the T20 World Cup 2024. While the Hitman has indicated that he would mostly take part in the marquee event next year, it remains to be seen if he will continue to lead the side.
In the absence of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya became the de facto leader of the T20 side. But he has been out after suffering an ankle injury in the India vs Bangladesh World Cup match in October. He is yet to recover from his injury and is likely to return directly in IPL 2024.
