AUS vs PAK: David Warner reflects on his favorite innings ahead of his farewell Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground

The Sydney Cricket Ground is poised to witness a historic moment in cricket, with David Warner gearing up for his final Test match donning the iconic baggy green in the final AUS vs PAK Test.

Warner, one of Australia’s premier openers, has long anticipated this Test to be his farewell on home soil, and the upcoming match at his home ground carries immense significance. The New Year’s Test will serve as the culmination of an illustrious red-ball career for the veteran batsman, and he is determined to bid adieu in a manner befitting his cricketing legacy. Speaking ahead of the series, Warner fondly reflected on his favourite innings in the white jersey.

David Warner’s 78-ball century in 2017

David Warner kicked off 2017 in spectacular fashion, delivering a stunning performance by scoring a century off 78 balls (17×4) on the opening day of the third Test between Australia and Pakistan in Sydney. This remarkable achievement placed Warner in elite company, as Sir Don Bradman was the last Australian to accomplish this feat 94 years ago.

“I think the 100 in a session here (against Pakistan in 2017) is probably one for me where you don’t go out as an opening batter trying to achieve that, to get the team off to a start like that. But to go out there and score a hundred in a session is massive.” said Warner speaking to Cricket.com.au

Demonstrating his prowess, Warner reached his fifty in just 41 balls, and he reached the milestone of a century by skillfully steering Wahab Riaz to third man before the lunch break on the first day.

“Then clearly the 300 in Adelaide (his 335no against Pakistan in 2019) was probably my most patient innings. It was a challenge mentally to get back up the next day and play. I’d never really experienced that before in that many hours at the crease.”

In the ongoing 2nd Test against Pakistan in 2019 at the Adelaide Oval, David Warner achieved a significant milestone by scoring his maiden triple hundred in Test cricket. Warner’s remarkable feat marked the first triple hundred by an Australian since former captain Michael Clarke’s innings of 329* against India in January 2012. Notably, Warner’s triple century was completed off 389 balls, securing its place as the fourth-fastest triple hundred in the history of Test cricket.
