Former Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad on Saturday opened up about the top 5 cricketing performances of 2023. The former cricketer started a thread on X (previously Twitter) which allowed X users to ask questions to the former cricketer. In one such question, he was asked to name the best 5 cricketing performances of the year 2023. Prasad’s list was dominated by the Australians and the Indians. It is not surprise considering both teams had a very good 2023.
Head, Kohli, Shami dominates list
Prasad named Glenn Maxwell’s double ton against Afghanistan in the 2023 ODI World Cup group stage match as the best performance of 2023. Maxwell produced a brilliant innings and won the game for singlehandedly for Australia from a tricky situation.
India’s nemesis Travis Head comes twice on Venkatesh Prasad’s list of top 5 performances of the year. The first mention for Head was because of his ODI World Cup final heroics. Head scored 137 to help Australia lift another ODI World Cup. Chasing 241 in the final, Head opened the innings and stood rock solid in the middle to take the game away from India.
Travis Head’s performance in the World Test Championship final against India was named as the third best performance of the year by Venkatesh Prasad. Head once again proved instrumental in Australia’s success in the year. He played an innings of 163 in Australia’s first innings, helping the Aussies mount a huge total of 469.
The 4th and 5th best performances of the year according to Prasad belonged to the Indians. Prasad placed Virat Kohli’s performance in the ODI World Cup as the 4th best performance of the year. Virat had an impeccable World Cup campaign, scoring 765 runs from 11 matches in the tournament. Kohli set a new World Cup record in the 2023 edition owing to his magnificent form.
According to Venkatesh Prasad, the 5th best performance of the year belonged to Mohammed Shami. Shami was the best bowler of the ODI World Cup, picking up 24 wickets in the tournament. His performance also included a seven-wicket haul against New Zealand.
