Shardul Thakur recovers swiftly after injury scare during training in South Africa

Despite the impact, Thakur continued to bat, showcasing resilience and determination

In a reassuring update from the Indian camp in South Africa, all-rounder Shardul Thakur is reported to be in excellent condition following a shoulder injury scare during an optional training session. The incident occurred at Centurion on Saturday when Shardul received a blow to his left shoulder while facing throwdowns from a support staff member.

Despite the impact, Thakur continued to bat, showcasing resilience and determination. The Indian team’s medical staff has reportedly given him a clean bill of health, ruling out the need for any treatment or scans. A source within the Indian team emphasized to Cricbuzz that there is “no concern at all” regarding Thakur’s fitness, assuring fans and teammates alike.

Team positive despite Shardul Thakur injury scare

The optional training session saw a limited number of players, including skipper Rohit Sharma, R Ashwin, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mukesh Kumar, Prasidh Krishna, KS Bharat, and Shardul Thakur. Despite the injury incident, the mood within the team remains positive, and Thakur is expected to be available for the upcoming engagements.

The Indian team on Sunday will travel to Cape Town for the second and final Test against South Africa, scheduled to begin on January 3 at Newlands Stadium. While the playing lineup for the Test is yet to be confirmed, there are speculations around the inclusion of Prasidh Krishna, who made his debut in the first Test. The pacer’s performance has faced scrutiny, leading the team management to consider alternatives like Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan.

Another notable aspect is the availability of Ravindra Jadeja, who missed the first Test due to back stiffness. With his potential return, the team management faces decisions on the final composition for the crucial second Test as they aim to level the series after a challenging defeat in Centurion.
