Rahmanullah Gurbaz validates KKR’s IPL 2024 retention, smashes maiden T20I century vs UAE

Rahmanullah Gurbaz was retained by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise for next year’s IPL 2024 season.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz smashed a 50-ball hundred against UAE in the first UAE vs AFG T20I match on Friday at Sharjah. The right-handed batter smashed seven boundaries and as many as towering sixes before he was dismissed by pacer Junaid Siddique, thus top-scoring for his side with a career-best 100 from just 52 balls. Thanks to his efforts with the bat, Afghanistan earned a comfortable win over UAE in the opening T20I encounter.

Gurbaz made IPL debut in 2022

Owing to his splendid run at the 2023 World Cup, Rahmanullah Gurbaz was retained by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise for next year’s IPL 2024 season. The KKR management made further additions to their line-up during the IPL 2024 auction on December 19. The dashing wicketkeeper-batsman made his IPL debut back in 2022 for the Gujarat Titans before he was roped in by the KKR the following year.

Gurbaz’s batting blitz also propelled Afghanistan to a highly competitive 203-run total upfront, after they were put into bat first by UAE skipper Muhammad Waseem. Meanwhile, the Afghani side is heading towards a perfect over UAE in the first T20I.
