After much speculation about his future, Carlo Ancelotti, has agreed a contract extension to remain as Real Madrid head coach until June 2026, the club announced on Friday. Ancelotti returned to the club for a second spell in 2021. He led them to a league and Champions League double on his return.
His previous contract was set to end in June 2024. He was repeatedly linked with taking over the role of Brazil coach next summer. However, it seems like that deal is off the table with the Italian coach signing a contract extension.
“Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti have agreed to extend our coach’s contract until June 30, 2026,” the club said in a statement on Friday.
“In his five seasons as coach of Real Madrid, he has won 10 trophies. Two Champions League, two Club World Cups, two European Super Cups, one league title, two Copas del Rey and one Spanish Supercopa.
“Carlo Ancelotti is the only coach to have won four European Cups. He has achieved the most victories in the history of the competition (118). He is also the first coach to win the five major European leagues (Italy, England, France , Germany and Spain).”
Real Madrid are flying at the moment. The Los Blancos are on top of the La Liga table and have qualified for the Round of 16.
Ancelotti has five La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues under his belt. He has been one of the best managers in the world for almost three decades. Ancelotti began his managerial career with Juventus, then Milan, Chelsea, and finally PSG before joining Madrid in 2013. He won his first title with the club, the Champions League, before being dismissed two seasons later.
In 2021, he returned to the Santiago Bernabeu after spending the previous four years in charge of Bayern, Napoli, and Everton.
