Rishabh Pant vs KL Rahul debate continues to wage on. India Cricket Team are looking for a fixed wicketkeeper and with Pant injured, India has used a variety of keepers across all formats of the game. But things are different in Test cricket. Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has claimed that Rishabh Pant should be the long term keeper for India across all three formats of the game.
Currently in the absence of Rishabh Pant, India has used KS Bharat and KL Rahul as the man behind the stumps. But as Pant is on his way to recovery, it remains to be seen as to who becomes the designated keeper for India across all formats of the game.
“Good opportunity for KL Rahul but Rishabh Pant will be the long term wicketkeeper in all three formats once he returns,” Sanjay Manjrekar told Star Sports while commentating on Day 1 of IND vs SA 1st Test.
KL Rahul vs Rishabh Pant
It has been a debate for quite sometime as to who will be India’s designated keeper. KL Rahul took over the mantle from KS Bharat (in Tests) and Ishan Kishan (ODIs and T20Is) as Pant continues his recovery. While KL has been good, Manjrekar feels that KL will flourish more as a batter.
During the IND vs SA ODIs, KL Rahul told in the Press Conference that he is enjoying his role down the order and will be willing to take on the role as the designated keeper across the three formats of the game. KL has claimed that he will ready to follow what the board wants him to do.
As for Pant, the destructive southpaw aims to make a comeback in IPL for Delhi Capitals. But in all likelihood, Pant will feature as an impact player.
