As India Cricket Team gears to face South Africa in the IND vs SA 1st Test, Rohit Sharma has emphasised that Mohammed Shami will be a big miss. The veteran pacer will miss the Tour of South Africa. Shami has been nursing an ankle injury post the ODI World Cup and thus will miss the crucial series in the Rainbow Nation.
In Shami’s absence the pace attack will be spearhead by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Shardul Thakur on the other hand will operate as the 4th pacer in the team. There is however a big selection conundrum regarding the selection of the 3rd pacer between Mukesh Kumar vs Prasidh Krishna.
“Very important Test series. We have never won a series here. It’s a big opportunity for us. We came close the last two times. That gives us a lot of excitement and encouragement to do our best. Our seamers have done well in Australia, England and South Africa. The seamers have actually pulled their weight in. Shami will be a big miss,” Rohit Sharma said in the pre match Press Conference.
When BCCI released the squads for the India tour of South Africa it was revealed that Shami will require fitness clearance from NCA. However, with Shami not being able to recover from his injury, the BCCI revealed a few days back that the pacer will not be available.
Shami after being benched for the first 4 matches in ODI World Cup scalped 24 wickets from 7 to take the title of the highest wicket taker in the tournament.
