Former KKR, PBKS star KC Cariappa has knocked on the doors of police against his former girlfriend, alleging that she threatened to end his cricket career. She has also allegedly warned his family members, including his father, mother and elder brother, of dire consequences, as per the complaint which comes almost a year after the woman had filed a complaint against him.
The 29-year-old cricketer, a resident of Ramaiah Layout in Nagasandra and from Kodagu, told Bagalagunte police Friday he befriended a woman named Divya (name changed), 24, from Kodagu. He claimed they soon fell in love, but he broke up with her as she was a “drug addict, alcoholic and promiscuous”.
Earlier, on December 31, 2022, Divya filed a complaint against KC Cariappa with Bagalagunte police claiming he had got her pregnant and had forcibly fed her abortion tablets in September.
Case also filed against Cariappa
Divya told TOI that KC Cariappa convinced her into not pressing the case, saying he would marry her. Considering his cricket career, she didn’t give any evidence to police, she said, adding, “As I didn’t give any evidence, police filed a B report.”
However, KC Cariappa in his complaint stated that he had tried to convince Divya into quitting alcohol and as she didn’t listen to him, he decided to break-up.
He alleged that she threatened to end his cricket career by killing herself and leaving a suicide note naming him. “Based on the complaint filed by Cariappa, we have taken up a case…,” a senior police officer said.
Divya said she was unaware of the complaint against her, but added that she would fight back. On Saturday, she filed a complaint against KC Cariappa at RT Nagar police station.
Who is KC Cariappa?
Mystery bowlers always add an intriguing element to cricket, and certain IPL franchises, notably Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), have a penchant for including them in their squad. One such instance involved a Karnataka spinner who left a lasting impression at the KKR trial camp, which resulted in him earning him a significant deal at the 2015 IPL auction. The franchise, impressed by his skills, acquired him at a staggering 24 times (Rs 2.4 crores) of his base price of 10 lakh rupees.
Unfortunately, he was released from his contract in 2016 after playing just one match.
Subsequently, Kings XI Punjab secured his services for 80 lakhs, and though he featured in a few games, he faced challenges. Despite going unsold in the 2019 IPL auction, a stellar performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament for Karnataka caught the attention of KKR again. He made a comeback as an injury replacement for Shivam Mavi but played only one game in the 2019 season.
His journey took an interesting turn when Rajasthan Royals (RR) showed interest in him, securing his services for 20 Lakhs INR ahead of IPL 2021. He was released ahead of IPL 2024 Auction by RR.
