Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada ‘available’ for IND vs SA 1st Test, confirms Proteas’ head coach

South Africa head coach Shukri Conrad on Saturday confirmed that Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi will be available for selection in IND vs SA 1st Test.

South Africa head coach Shukri Conrad has confirmed that both pace duo Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi will be available for selection in the IND vs SA 1st Test, starting on Tuesday in Centurion.

Rabada and Nigidi missed out the limited-overs series due to injuries. While Rabada is nursing a heel injury, and Ngidi is recovering from an ankle injury.

However, amidst the doubts over fitness, both pacers took part in the training session and bowled at nets.

“They are both here with us and that means they are available for selection as things stand,” Conrad said in the press conference on Saturday.

“We have not called anybody in as a replacement and hopefully come the morning of the match we have 15 fit players to select from”, the Proteas’ head coach added.

India are eyeing for their first Test series win in the rainbow nation but Conrad said that the team will look to maintain their home record against the visitors.

“We certainly want to hold on to that proud record and make sure that that doesn’t happen. There are so many matchups that this series hinges on. It’s two Tests, so it’s a high pressured one. You go 1-0 down and you can’t win the series. You go 1-0 up, you can’t lose. It’s going to be like a heavyweight boxing bout”, Conrad added.
