AUS vs PAK 2nd Test: Spinner Abrar Ahmed ruled out of Boxing Day Test

Woes for Pakistan continue, Spinner Abrar Ahmed ruled out of the Boxing Day Test, starting on December 26 at MCG.

The Pakistan cricket team dealt a blow to their hopes for a historic Test win in Australia, confirming spinner Abrar Ahmed’s absence from the Melbourne Test due to right-leg discomfort.

“Abrar Ahmed’s symptoms have significantly improved, and he has started bowling at 50 percent intensity. Although he has worked really well since his diagnosis in Canberra, he still is not 100 percent asymptomatic,” PCB’s statement read.

Sajid Khan, already called up before the first Test, is now the frontrunner to replace Abrar in Melbourne.

“Considering the nature of the injury and the workload required from a spinner in a Test match, Abrar is not yet ready and will therefore not be available for the second Test. He will undergo a preliminary fitness test on 25 December, which will determine his probable return-to-play date,” PCB added.

Another late change saw fast bowler Khurram Shazad ruled out of the remaining Tests with a stress fracture and abdominal tear, adding to the woes.

Spinner Nouman Ali was diagnosed with acute appendicitis and had to withdraw, paving the way for Mohammad Nawaz to join the squad in Australia.

Pakistan, led by Shan Masood, are desperate to break their 28-year winless streak in Australia, dating back to 1995. However, the mounting injuries and late replacements cast a shadow of doubt over their chances.
