‘Wasn’t shocked’ Chetan Sakariya on getting released by Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2024

Chetan Sakariya also said that he is keen to learn a few new things from Mitchell Starc in upcoming IPL.

Left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya will be playing for the two-time IPL champs Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024. Sakariya was a part of the Delhi Capitals squad, but he was released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2024 Auction. Sakariya recently gave his reaction on being excluded from the Delhi Capitals camp as he stated that he was left disappointed.

I wasn’t shocked but I was a bit disappointed. But from the team’s perspective, they made the right decision. I wasn’t able to perform to the level that was expected from me. Maybe I didn’t do justice to my price tag. They already have several Indian options in Ishant (Sharma) Bhai, Khaleel Ahmed and Mukesh Bhai. After I didn’t hit the ground running, I naturally went back in the pecking order,” said Sakariya in an interview with Sportskeeda.

Will learn from Starc: Sakariya

Joining KKR for the upcoming IPL edition, Sakariya said that he will try to learn a few things from the Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc.

I used to speak a lot with Mustafizur Bhai and he used to guide me a lot about how to plan each delivery and how to make full use of the field placements. It just mesmerized me as to just how much a bowler can think about adjusting the field and helped me in my game. I hope I get to learn a lot from Mitchell Starc and add a lot more to my armory,” he added.

Speaking about Sakariya, the young pacer rose to fame in his debut IPL season with Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2021. The pacer picked 14 wickets in 14 games but was released by RR ahead of IPL 2022 auction. Sakariya was picked up by Delhi Capitals for Rs 4.2 crore in IPL mega auction in 2022. The youngster has played in 19 IPL games and has also featured in one ODI and two T20Is for India.
