Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul have been mainstays in the India Cricket Team for quite sometime. The duo played a crucial role in the ODI World Cup and will don an important role in the IND vs SA Test series. But it will be a long and much awaited return for the duo in res ball cricket.
Both KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer featured for India in Test way back in February when Australia toured India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The duo were injured and went on to miss all important WTC Finals and the Test series against the West Indies.
Big Return for KL Rahul & Shreyas Iyer
KL Rahul was dropped from the Test squad after the 2nd game in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Iyer played till the third match and was injured in the fourth game. Following which both the batters went on to get injured. KL injured his hamstring during the IPL while Iyer had a stress fracture.
Both the players went under the knife in England and began their recovery. None was available for the WTC Finals as KS Bharat was given the keeper’s gloves. The duo missed the Test series against West Indies in the Caribbeans and struggled to find their fitness for the Asia Cup.
But they rocked the ODI World Cup by stitching powerful performances. And now it is time for the big test. After almost 10 months without first class cricket or Test matches, the duo will go head to head in a fiery battle with the Proteas.
With India’s poor perforance against the Proteas away from home, a lot will bank on India’s final frontier on the middle order duo. As India seeks to break a 31-year old jinx, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer will also be keen to fix their spots in the team.
