India’s ‘Hitman’ Rohit Sharma displayed his sheer prowess by hitting the T20I hundred to register a record for the second joint-fastest century in the shortest format of the game. He hammered a ton in 35 balls in the second match of the series against Sri Lanka in 2017.
The impact of Sharma’s blistering innings steered India to a huge total of 260 runs. KL Rahul also shined in the match with 89 off 49 balls. India came out victorious in the game comprehensively by 88 runs.
Later, India sealed the series with a resounding 3-0 victory, further underscoring their dominance in the limited-overs format.
In the match, Sri Lanka batted second to chase a mammoth total of 261 runs. They gave themselves a chance and built a partnership of more than a hundred runs. But, after the second wicket went down, SL collapsed and India won comfortably.
Indian spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal slaughtered in pairs and took seven wickets together. Jaydev Unadkat and Hardik Pandya also dismissed one batter each.
Fastest T20I hundreds
Rohit Sharma had the joint record of scoring the fastest T20I hundred before Nepalese batter Kushal Malla surpassed everyone by hitting a hundred in 34 balls. David Miller and Sudesh Wickramasekara are two other batters who have second quickest century with Rohit Sharma.
