When Keshav Maharaj arrived at the crease, the song 'Ram Siya Ram' rang across the ground, and apparently, this was not the first time

The IND vs SA 3rd T20I on Thursday produced a funny moment when South African spinner Keshav Maharaj came out to bat. A song called, ‘Ram Siya Ram’ was playing on the ground at the moment. The song prompted a quick exchange between India’s captain KL Rahul and Maharaj. The video of the conversation went viral on social media.

Batting first, India had given a target of 298 in the third and final ODI. After being largely ahead of the curve in the run chase, some quick wickets made the chase tougher for the Proteas. In such a setting, Keshav Maharaj came to bat at number 8 for South Africa.

When Keshav Maharaj arrived at the crease, the song ‘Ram Siya Ram’ rang across the ground, and apparently, this was not the first time. Indian captain KL Rahul, who was behind the stumps keeping wickets, told Maharaj, “Everytime you come, they play this song”. Maharaj replied with a “Yaa” before taking guard.

Notably, Keshav Maharaj is a devoted Hindu and has shown his love for the religion in previous instances too. His post after defeating Pakistan in the World Cup went viral. After the match against Pakistan, Maharaj wrote on social media, “In God I Trust. what a special result by the boys, awesome to see the performances from @shamsi90 & @aidenmarkram. Jai Shree Hanuman.”

Therefore it is not a surprise that Maharaj would take the song in a positive way. However, the song could not inspire Maharaj much as he departed after scoring 14 runs of 27 balls.
