IPL 2024 Auction: RCB troll MI after spiking price for Nuwan Thushara

RCB deployed a clever ruse to get the better out of MI and DC at the IPL 2024 auction currently underway in Dubai

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) played a smart move during the IPL 2024 auction, with Mumbai Indians (MI) being their victim. RCB prompted a bidding war for Sri Lanka’s Nuwan Thushara, spiking his price to over Rs 4cr in the process. With just Rs 5.25 cr left in their purse, Bangalore attempted this so-called smart strategy to push MI to spend more for the pacer.

Nuwan Thushara, whose base price was Rs 50 lakhs, became the subject of a bidding war between the two sides. Bangalore bidded for the pacer until Rs 4.60 cr before pulling out, ensuring that MI will pay more than that amount to fetch the pacer. Following the pick, there was a light moment between the members on RCB and MI tables, with a few words exchanged between Akash Ambani and the RCB representative.

Earlier in the IPL auction, RCB attempted to do the sam, with DC as the victim this time. The bidding war occurred for Australia’s Jhye Richardson whose base price was Rs 1.50 cr. RCB bidded for the pacer until Rs 4.80 cr after which they gave up. Richardson was sold to DC for Rs 5 cr subsequently.
