Remember Dilshan Madushanka? The left-arm fast bowler from Sri Lanka who emerged as one of the highest wicket-takers in the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2023, was sold for INR 4.60 Cr to Mumbai Indians, in the IPL 2024 Auction on Tuesday. This will be the first time that the speedster has made it to the IPL.
Like is the case with most sub-continental players, Madushanka too has a rags-to-riches story. If the social media is to be believed, until very recently, he did not even have a decent pair of shoes to play cricket. But all that has changed now, with his hefty IPL paycheque.
Another report in The Hindu suggests, that Madushanka could not study beyond 11th standard, since his economic condition wasn’t that sound. His father Sujith Krishantha is a fisherman, and he grew up playing the sport with his elder brother. It was then Chaminda Vaas who spotted him at one of the nets for Sri Lanka U-19 team.
