New Zealand opener Rachin Ravindra was picked by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for Rs 1.8 crore at the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai on Tuesday.
Ravindra, who had a base price of 50 Lakh, sparked a mini bidding war between CSK, DC and PBKS but the 5-times IPL champions had the last laugh.
Ravindra has now reacted on getting picked by the MS Dhoni-led side. “Just really excited to don the yellow jersey. It’s absolute privilege to be part of such a historic franchise and the IPL team that has so much success. Also very excited to be part of the IPL for the first time,” the young Kiwi star said in a video posted by CSK on X.
Ravindra also expressed his excitement to play alongside his national side teammates Mitchell Santner and Daryl Mitchell.
“Very privileged to be able to play in the same team as Santner and Davs [Daryl Mitchell]. They are my very close mates in New Zealand team. Grateful to be involved in such an amazing franchise and obviously being coached as well. Just having that Kiwi connection is pretty cool”, Ravindra added.
The 24-year-old made heads turn with stunning batting display in ODI World Cup in India. The young opener scored 578 runs in the tournament which is a record for most runs by a batter playing his maiden World Cup.
